I agree to Privacy and Terms I confirm that I have stayed at Clarahawn House on the specified dates and my review is my honest opinion based on my personal experience of this property. The house itself is really beautiful, as you can see from the pictures, with high quality fittings and furnishings.
The garden is totally private - our dachshund happily wandered around - and I imagine young children would have a wonderful time exploring. The village is only a 5 minute drive or nice 20min walk away with a decent Supervalu for any supplies and a number of pubs, Chinese restaurant, chemist - all the usual things you would expect in a small village. Kilkenny City is about 30mins drive away but really we didn't want to leave the lovely house and surroundings.
We will definitely be back - well done to the owners on a beautiful property. We love it, I want to live there, I want to sit at the kitchen table with my cuppa and gaze out at the totally amazing view for eternity. OK so you got that I'm smitten with this wonderful house. Clarahawn sits on a large plot of land with a lovely garden that leads down to the river.
The level leading down is quite steep the walk back up a good cardiac exercise , but widely spaced stairs make it very safe. There is a large swing on one level which is great for the little ones. If you love fishing there is a cleared area at the bottom which would be perfect, plus it makes for a fabulous picnic spot. The spot is entirely private as it all belongs to Clarahawn and is surrounded by plantation.
The garden at the top by the house is large and encompassing, with a large sweep of lawn, beautiful plants and trees, a fire pit, paved area for dining, and a large decking area. As if that wasn't enough there is another garden with another table and chairs at the side of the house.
The house itself is totally private and is accessed via a large electronic gate with room to park several cars on the drive. The interior is absolutely beautifully dressed, with no expense spared, and the architects have created a fabulous design.
Fuel, power and starter pack for stove inc. Lovely south facing riverside terrace accessed via dining room patio doors.
You are welcomed with a bottle of wine and local bread, which is a wonderful touch. The view over the Blackstairs mountains make me draw in breath each time I gaze upon it, and you see this jaw dropping backdrop from most of the house. It is quite a privilege to be cooking whilst gazing upon something so stunning. In fact it is quite a priviliage to be allowed to live at Clarahawns. The house is approximately one mile outside of Graignamanach, the village of the monks.
Graig is a picturesque village that sits on the river, and lends itself for river walks.
There is something for everyone right on your doorstep! In the garden there is also a great tree house and children's play area.
It houses everything you will need, with an encompassing supermarket, local butcher, pubs and restaurants. The village is situated perfectly whether you travel by air or by sea and there are so many things you can do in the Kilkenny County. The people are friendly and you will always receive a cheery "hello" wherever you walk.
In summary I don't want you to visit Clarahawn, simply because we want it all to ourselves; but in fairness I cannot recommend it highly enough. We will be visiting Clarahawn again next year.
I simply cannot praise Clarahawn highly enough. It is my dream house in my dream location. Its elevated position gives stunning views of the River Barrow valley and the hills beyond. We had a mixed bag in terms of weather it is Ireland after all!
The gardens are fantastic for a family It's very private, surrounded on 3 sides by mature trees and then drops down via a series of steps to the River Barrow. Our 2 children never grew tired of the garden, just so much space to run about. There is even a swing on the way down to the river. The house is stunning. It's easy to miss from the road and is tucked in behind wooden electric gates but it's well worth waiting for.
Very tastefully decorated with 5 star attention to detail. The living space downstairs is amazing. Bright, spacious and elegant with lots of great little touches. The bedrooms are simply but tastefully decorated with feather duvets and pillows. Great water pressure in the wonderful showers, always an issue for me. Every gadget you need in a kitchen is catered for.
We just loved it. You are even welcomed with a nice bottle of wine and so local wheaten bread. They didn't last long! I wouldn't think twice about booking this wonderful house again. It's a must for us again next year.
